Who We Are
Hoi P’loy was founded in 2013 by Ploy Phiromnam and Guy van der Walt who came together to elevate the level of custom designed lamps and lighting components available in South Africa. Over the years the duo has established the brand as the go-to solution of choice for discerning supporters of high-end, functional lighting design pieces.

We are driven by a deep desire to challenge the current status quo, by drawing on traditional approaches, using only high quality,
authentic materials such as brass, embracing the latest technologies and investing in meaningful experiences starting with our
production environment all the way through to the impact our products have on the lives of our supporters.
While some of our products are manufactured by partners internationally, the majority of Hoi p'loys Custom designed lights, fittings and components are
manufactured in Cape Town. We're a little obsessive when.it comes to detail and this can be seen even in our smallest custom made components,
such as our acid etched name-plates and precision engineered thumbscrews.
Product Customization
Over the years we’ve designed a range that’s made up of bespoke modular components, unique to Hoi P’loy, that can be easily interchanged and customized in order to offer products that are one-of-a-kind pieces to match your unique interior aesthetic and colour scheme. If you see something you like on our website, but would like to chop and change colours or parts, let us know - there’s a good chance we can make it happen.
Product & Interior Designer Guidance
We offer a free advisory service where architects, interior designers & product designers can engage with us and draw on our knowledge and experience of the lighting industry to develop their own lights that are well considered and designed with best practices in mind. We’re always happy to advise anybody who might need assistance with creating their own designs.
Lighting Restoration & Upgrades
We frequently assist clients who’ve purchased lights elsewhere that they’d like to upgrade or customise, by for example changing fittings, lamp shades, cable cord, switches or ceiling cups. Additionally we also love breathing new life into vintage light fittings that have been gathering dust in the attic. Bring ’em over to us for a new lease on life!
